Belts add texture, color, and polish to an outfit. If chosen wisely, they can also minimize figure flaws, four of which are shown below:
Long waisted: Choose a wider belt in the same color as your skirt or pants. This creates an illusion of greater space in the lower part of your body.
Big hips: Never buckle your belt too tightly. A tiny, pushed-in waist will only make your hips look bigger.
Too short: Wear belts in the same color as your outfit. Never wear a contrasting color at the waist. It cuts you in half. Choose belts that form a vertical line. For example, sashes which hang below the belt line.
SOME MORE ADVICE:
Where to wear the belt: You can wear them just below the bust line (for a polished look and to emphasize your curves), the waist (most common) or slung around the hips (casual or playful). If you have a large or wide torso, you may try cinching a wide belt at the tiniest part of your torso to slim you down.
Color: As already mentioned, match the color of the belt with the clothing of the body part you want to elongate (top or bottom). If you have a narrow torso, stay away from dark clothes and belts. If you clothing is colorful or is patterned, use a dark and solid colored belt. If you dress is plain you can try chic belts with tassels, etc.
Plus: You can also use long scarves as a belt alternative. :) Not only do they have beautiful patterns and gradients, you also get more for you money.
accessorize moderately,
