Get rid of your dark under eye circles and eye bags

I’m one of those people with huge, dark under eye circles ever since I was a kid. Eye bags only come when I don’t get enough sleep or I just finished crying. Although eye bags and dark under eye circles are two different things, nobody wants to have either or both of these.

Dark under eye circles are caused by lack of sleep, stress, fatigue, deficiency, or plain bad genes. Eye bags are caused by excessive crying, stress, high sodium intake, allergic reaction, consumption of alcohol, sinus problems, irritation from contact lenses, or, again, heredity. But worry not, because there’s a lot of ways to lessen them.

Dark circles

Hydrate. Drink lots of water. I prefer to drink plain water and avoid sports drinks. Sports drinks are not only expensive, they also have excess calories.
Avoid eye strain. Don’t stare too long on the computer! Rest your eyes by taking a nap, sleeping early, or moving them away from the PC.
Have enough sleep. At least 7 hours of sleep is fine with me. To check your minimum required amount of sleep, go to bed early and sleep straight without turning on the alarm clock. Count the hours from the approximate time you’ve fallen asleep to the time you woke up uninterruptedly – that’s your least required hours of sleep.

Try home remedies. Cover closed eyelids with slices of cold raw potato or cucumber for 20 minutes. Tyra Banks recommends freshly crushed mint leaves and applying it under the eyes, just leave it on for a few minutes (or 20). Try planting mint so you won’t have to buy packs of mint leaves every grocery trip. Almond oil is also good, but I doubt it’s expensive unless your friendly neighbor or a close relative sells some. Other remedies include mixture of kitchen finds: Pineapple and turmeric powder, lemon and tomato, Vitamin E capsule powder and honey+egg white (use to wipe off powder).
Buy effective eye creams, roll-ons, etc. I’ve used Garnier under eye roll on and it works. Haven’t tried any expensive eye creams but I read Clinique’s (Clinique All About Eyes) is one of the most effective products around, based on product reviews online. Creams infused with vitamin K may also help.
Load up on vitamin C. Don’t forget to take your daily dose of vitamin c or get it from drinking fresh orange juice or eating vitamin c-rich fruits such as orange, pineapple, guava, etc.

Eye bags

Pile more pillows in bed. Raising your head while sleeping prevents fluids from building up around your eyes.
Head out to the kitchen. Again, home remedies can do wonders. Potato and cucumber slices can lessen the puffiness. Just place cold slices on each eye for 15-20 minutes. A damp chamomile tea bag also works well. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory effects that help reduce eye bags. If you prefer applying juices, try combining a 1:1 mixture of cucumber and lemon juice, apply, and leave on for 10-15 minutes. You can also put vitamin E or olive oil.
Stay away from salty food. Avoid eating potato chips and other snacks
with high salt content. Salt retains water, causing puffiness that
form under the eyes.

Love your gorgeous eyes ;)
